John Scott is one of South Carolina’s most effective and experienced leaders. For 30 years, he has served South Carolina in many capacities, including managing the statewide federal workforce training programs under two governors, being elected to Richland County Council, the SC House of Representatives and the SC State Senate. He currently serves on the Senate Finance; Labor, Commerce and Industry; Medical Affairs; and Rules Committees.
Senator Scott has been a staunch advocate for South Carolina’s children, state employees, elderly, school teachers, public education and institutions of higher learning. His record reflects his core beliefs that all people have equal value and that it is the responsibility of the government to see that economic and social justice are available to all South Carolinians. He’s been a strong voice for requiring equal funding for schools, supporting the lottery, improving teacher pay, creating common sense gun laws, fixing the state’s roads, strengthening ethics laws, expanding Medicaid, and supporting the SC National Guard.
Senator Scott lives in Columbia with his wife Joan; they have one son. He is the founder of JL Scott Realty Company and he and his wife co-own C&S Consulting. He’s a man of faith a member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church.
